General Manager Position



The Plains Equity Exchange and Cooperative Union is an agricultural cooperative with locations in Southwestern Kansas, and is principally engaged in marketing and storing grains and in retail sales of agricultural-related products.  The CO-OP, with $62 million in assets and $70+ million in gross revenues, is currently in search of a General Manager.  Working with the Board of Directors, this individual will strategically and tactically lead the entity.


Primary responsibilities will include daily operational oversight to ensure sustainable operations while maintaining a strong membership loyalty base.


The ideal candidate will have a personable and engaging leadership style, possess strong communication and organization skills, and will have significant experience in a high-level leadership capacity over a multifaceted organization.


The General Manager will be accountable for:

  • Creating an environment and culture that focuses on fulfilling the CO-OP’s mission, vision and values
  • The day to day focus on financial operations of the entity with an unwavering commitment to solid financial performance
  • Adhering to federal and state laws and regulations, bylaws, policies and procedures
  • Fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and exemplary customer service within the organization and within the community
  • Developing an annual operational and capital budget
  • Providing monthly financial updates to the Board, including recommendations for financial performance improvement
  • Developing any processes, procedures, and metrics deemed necessary to maximize and support strategic goals and protect Cooperative assets
  • Recruiting, developing, and retaining qualified staff
  • Representing the Cooperative within the local community and the Cooperative community


The General Manager will have the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years in a supervisory capacity over a complex organization with experience in operations management preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of financial success and uncompromised customer service
  • Experience with creating, adhering to, and reporting against operational and capital budgets
  • Proven success in recruiting and developing staff, and in community-based relationship building
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, lead and coordinate individuals
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
